PLACE-BASED MUSIC CELEBRATIONS
Place-based and experiential learning are considered "equity pedagogy", or learning approaches that are designed to further social justice and solutionary thinking. Practicing equity pedagogy in our classrooms is one facet of growing equitable music studios. More methods that make up Youth Volume's culture of learning are described on our Teaching Approach page.
We love learning to play our violins in genres with historical significance to our city! It's part of our work as musical changemakers.
Youth Volume's annual Place-based Music Celebrations include a workshop series, culminating performance & album. Teaching artists facilitate non-classical genre workshops and write NEW music alongside thier younger collaborators. We are at once Culture Keepers AND Culture Creators.
During this process, Youth Volume students develop positive cultural identities as residents of their cities and as citizens of the world. Click on the album titles below to learn more about each year's celebration.
