We're hiring a Program Manager!
Detroit Youth Volume (DYV) is seeking a talented individual to become our new Program Manager. This is a brand new position that will help us take the organization to the next level! The Program Manager will lead the planning and execution of the organization’s day-to-day classes and performances. They will be the main point of communication for parents of current and prospective students. Details about the specific responsibilities and qualifications of the job are listed below.
This is a contracted position with a pay rate of $20 per hour for 20 hours per week, from September 24, 2018 through June 28, 2019, with possibility of extension dependent on performance. Pay rate and hours may be renegotiated after 6 months. The contract will be made with our fiscal sponsor, Allied Media Projects, on behalf of Detroit Youth Volume.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM MANAGER ROLE
The Program Manager will coordinate with the Director and Administrative/Communications Manager to realize DYV’s mission. The Program Manager will work with students, parents, community partners, and colleagues to support the smooth functioning of weekly Suzuki lessons and classes, our three annual shows, community performances, and our annual Special Project workshop series facilitated by local musicians. The Program Manager will also provide the resources and environment needed to successfully carry out program components that are specific to the Detroit Youth Volume experience such as guest artist workshops and community performances.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills. They will have an enthusiasm for supporting youth and their families in their efforts to access all the aspects of the world-class Suzuki method. They will also have a proven track record in the areas of program coordination, community event planning, and maintaining positive, healthy interpersonal relationships through empathetic and efficient communication skills.

Responsibilities
The Program Manager will be responsible for actively engaging and energizing Detroit Youth Volume teachers, students, parents, volunteer and partner organizations by
- Coordinating logistics of private lessons and group classes.
- Updating parents with important information via monthly emailed newsletter, group texts, and occasional phone calls.
- Submitting invoices for DYV staff, contractors, and guest artists.
- Developing plans for performances and events.
- Setting up and managing systems for programming and program evaluation, including teacher evals and parent-teaching conferences.
- Supporting coordination of further opportunities for students’ musical development through orchestra, camp, school or tickets to local shows.
- Working with the Administrative Assistant to
- complete student enrollment and address new student inquiries;
- maintain an updated student roster and attendance records;
- provide support to parents with billing and payments process;
- and manage program aspects related to access and equity including financial aid, transportation, and resources necessary for student success.
Qualifications
Required:
- Innovative spirit with prior experience coordinating day-to-day programming, special events and program evaluation.
- Ability to communicate in ways that will inspire and engage parents and teachers, both written and oral.
- Highly organized with strong leadership and collaboration skills.
- Ability to problem-solve calmly and effectively with patience and empathy.
- Data entry and database maintenance experience.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Understanding of arts education, ideally music.
- College graduate with 3 years of experience in the nonprofit sector or a comparable record of work and volunteer experience.
- Ability to work and thrive in diverse communities and settings. Experience in Detroit or similar community strongly preferred.
